View the metadata that is actually in the file

HEIC files can carry image information such as camera details, dates, dimensions, and other metadata. What you see depends on what the file contains and what the Viewer can read.

What HEIC metadata can include

A HEIC file may contain EXIF and other image information alongside the picture. Common examples can include capture details, dimensions, orientation, color information, and camera-related fields.

Not every HEIC contains the same fields. If a value is missing, it may simply not be present in that file.

To check the picture without changing it, open the HEIC viewer.

HEIC MIME type

The registered media type for HEIC is image/heic. HEIF files can also use image/heif, depending on the file and context.

A MIME type helps software identify the kind of file being handled, but it does not guarantee that every app can decode or display that file.

What happens to metadata when you convert HEIC

Converting the pixels to JPG, PNG, WebP, or PDF does not automatically mean every piece of photo metadata will be copied into the new file. The result depends on the output format and conversion path.

If metadata matters, inspect the converted file before deleting the original.

When you need a JPEG copy, convert HEIC to JPG.
